What really makes this shot stand out is the combination of this man's expression and the huge amount of detail captured in his face. Every line and wrinkle is shown thanks to the good positioning of light, but due to the shallow depth of field used only the face is kept in focus and blurring at the ear helping to increase the impact of this picture.

Framing is also very good; having chosen to crop the image fairly close to enhance the detail captured, but not to have the face dead-centre or straight on to the camera - a mistake done that can ruin an otherwise great shot, but has been avoided here.

This is a very good shot overall really making you feel as though this is someone who would really have an interesting story to tell from many great experiences.
